About four months ago my friend Patty talked me into watching Doctor who on Netfilx. I have heard about this show before, and never really wanted to watch it because I thought it was for nerds. Well I am now hooked and obsessed with this show. Yeah I watched all 7 seasons (not including the classics) in one week. So I must be a nerd and nerds are cool (kind of a doctor who reference). Let me try to explain what Doctor Who is about for all of you who have no idea what I'm talking about. First of all it is a British show that has recently came to the US. It is about this Time lord (The Doctor) who is an alien with two hearts, and has lived for
over 800 years. When ever he dies he regenerates into another body, and we are on the
11th Doctor. He travels in time and space in a spaceship that is disguised as a 50's police box called the T.A.R.D.I.S. He likes the human race and comes to visit us often. He takes up companions to travel with him usually pretty young girls. I found this is more because it keeps his humanity and not to go crazy with rage. His travels take him to places where he must set off into an adventure to help aliens and humans alike.
You may have heard that this year 2013 is Doctor who's 50th year Anniversary. Yeah I'm so behind 50 years behind! OK so there was a 16 year break between classic Doctor (1964) who and the newer stuff, which started in 2005 (it started with the ninth Doctor).
This show really has to be experienced. You really become close to these characters and love everything they go through. I have cried and laughed out loud more times that I can think while watching Doctor Who. There is a sense of pride in humanity, after watching this show that you are much more than you think. There is also love and compassion that is shown through all types of creatures. Its so much more than a show, its an experience.
A week?! That is insane! I've liked this show for a long time now. I started watching when it aired on SciFy in 2005, but fell behind a few seasons. I'm extremely glad that Nefflix has all their seasons now so I can start from the beginning and catch up. You're right about it being experienced to be enjoyed. Most people get caught up in its "nerd-perception" to even give it a chance. The show's got so many different facets and each story-lines are so creative that it never gets old -- which is why it's lasted for such a long time obviously.
ReplyDeleteThis is so cool. What an awesome blog, and you really consider your audience. I had no idea who Dr. Who is. But your writing considered that possibility. I'm going to have to check this out! (Who stars in it?!) Kimberly
